As humidity increases or the weather changes Wooden doors swell and it is not unusual for doors to stick or not close properly. The door frame changes shape and size due to movements in the ground and the varying humidity and so from time to time you will find yourself haiving to think about fixing that sticky door.
1) Check that the hinges on the door are tight and not loose casuing the door to sag. If this is the case then use some old telephone directories to prop up the door before tighting the screws. If the screws will not tighten any more or the holes for the screws have become to big, then remove the screws and fill the holes with some quick setting filler, allow to start setting and then re-screw the screws back in making sure that the door is supported and not sagging.
2) If the door still sticks then it may be possible to enlarge the door opening just by driving a couple nails through the door frame and into the studs underneath. This has the affect of snugging the door frame up to the studs. Even thought the movement may be small it could still be enough to rectify the problem. Find where the door sticks and drive a 2 to 3 inch nail into the door jamb at that location. You might need another nail 6 to 12 inches above or below that spot. Doing this on the opposite side of the door jamb might be possible but it is likely to be less effective because the weight of the door pulls on that side.
